John Joseph Pomazal was the son of Anton Pomazal. Born in Mauston, Wisconsin, he worked the family farm for most of his life. He married at age 32 and had four children, one of whom preceded him in death. He registed for the draft for WWI on June 5, 1917, at the age of 26.
